PageRank (PR) is an algorithm used by Google Search to rank web pages in their search engine results. It is named after both the term “web page” and co-founder Larry Page and Sergey Brin. PageRank is a way of measuring the importance of website pages.

According as it is stated, PageRank was the first algorithm used by Google to order search results and it is known as the most popular, as of September 24, 2019, but not the only one used by the company this means several as been used after PageRank, all patents associated with PageRank have expired.


PageRank is a link analysis algorithm and it assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references.
